A woman and baby have had a lucky escape after the car they were travelling in caught fire, in Bellarine yesterday morning.

The woman was driving past the Bellarine Police station when she noticed smoke coming from the tray.

She pulled over, managing to rescue her grandchild from the back seat before the fire took hold.

CFA Ocean Grove was called, extinguishing the blaze.

Police said both nan and baby are doing fine.
