National Collecting Institutions capturing COVID-19 stories

Did you know you can help record history during this extraordinary time?

Museums across Australia, including some of our National Collecting Institutions, are asking the public to share their experiences and hold onto COVID-19-related memorabilia.

The National Museum of Australia’s Facebook group Bridging the Distance is an active space where you can share your images, stories and thoughts of life in a pandemic. This group will become a digital record and you may see your contribution appear in the COVID-19 exhibition the museum is staging next year.

The National Library of Australia (NLA) is also asking Australians to hold onto items that record their day-to-day experiences of the pandemic, such as posters, leaflets and advertising material and is particularly interested in information from people living in remote and regional Australia. The NLA will call out for items through its social media channels – start following them so you don’t miss out.

Your memories, items and stories of life during the pandemic will give future generations the ability to understand how our lives changed, how we adapted and what lessons we learned.
