The Northern Territory Police Force will pay tribute to fallen colleagues as part of National Police Remembrance Day commemorations across the Territory tomorrow.
Tuesday September 29 will see police officers across Australia join in solidarity to pause and reflect as they remember those who died in the line of duty and those who died while serving.
Over the past 12 months, 11 former Northern Territory Police Force members have passed away, while Sergeant Clinton Stewart sadly passed while still serving.
We also remember four officers across the country who tragically died in the line of duty over the past year. Sergeant Mark Anthony Bransgrove of New South Wales Police, killed in July 2025, and Victorian Police officers Detective Leading Senior Constable Neal Thompson and Senior Constable Vadim De Waart, killed at Porepunkah on 26 August last year.
We would also like to pay our respects to Detective Senior Constable Maxine Bembridge, of the Western Australian Police Force, who sadly died in Hopeland in May this year.
The names of these four officers will be etched onto the National Police Memorial Wall in Canberra, joining other honoured Australians who made the ultimate sacrifice.
We also pay our respects to NSW Police Constable Mia Lay who tragically died in a car crash while on duty last week.
Her name will be etched onto the National Police Memorial Wall next year.
The day is marked by the wearing of the traditional blue and white chequerboard ribbon, officially recognised as the symbol of Remembrance Day.
Police Commissioner Martin Dole will join Police Commissioners from around the country on Tuesday to take part in commemorations for National Police Remembrance Day in Canberra.
Deputy Police Commissioner Clint Sims said: “Today is a time to mourn, but also to recommit.
“Let us honour those we have lost by living the principles they stood for. Let us support each other, in service and spirit.
“Let us ensure their memory endures, not just in ceremony, but through our actions.”

Darwin Event
- Morning service: A wreath laying ceremony and small service conducted by NTPF Chaplain Gaelene Reilly at the Cenotaph on the Darwin Esplanade at 8:00am.
- March: The Northern Territory Police Force (NTPF), Australian Federal Police (AFP), Australian Border Force (ABF) Colours and serving and retired police officers. For those members wishing to participate, the march will form-up outside Darwin Police Station at 9:15am and step off at 9:30am.
- Church Service: St Mary’s Star of the Sea Cathedral, Smith Street Darwin City, 9:45am.
Katherine Event
- Graveside of Constable William ‘Bill’ Condon, Katherine Memorial Cemetery, 9:00am. The service will be followed by morning tea at the Cemetery Rotunda.
Tennant Creek Event
- Graveside of Constable Maxwell Gilbert, Tennant Creek Regional Cemetery, 9:00am. The service will be followed by morning tea at Tennant Creek Police Club.
Alice Springs Event
- March: The NTPF and AFP Colours and serving and retired police officers. For those members wishing to march, the march will form-up outside Alice Springs Police Station at 9:25am.
- Service: Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church, Hartley Street Alice Springs, 10:00am. The service will be followed by morning tea on the lawns adjacent to the church.
Nhulunbuy Event
Nhulunbuy Police Station, 10:00am. The service will be followed by morning tea at the Nhulunbuy Police Station.
