Kingston’s establishment of a dedicated Project Management Office (PMO) has been recognised with a prestigious national award.

The team has been crowned the national winner for Transformation Projects at the Australian Institute of Project Management Achievement Awards.

The PMO team used an in-house, user-centric and co-design approach to develop new systems and processes in collaboration with various project teams and stakeholders across Council, based on the unique requirements of Kingston.

A delighted Kingston CEO Peter Bean said the award was well-deserved recognition after Council committed to taking a fresh and innovative approach to project management last year.

“We introduced the PMO to improve organisational-wide maturity in successfully planning and delivering capital projects for our community and it has made a radically positive difference,” Mr Bean said.

“It has transformed project management in our city from decentralised, inconsistent, and data-poor, into a cohesive, integrated approach with significantly improved results.

“By setting best-practice, consistent standards through a co-design process, the PMO has increased collaboration and is mitigating risks. Importantly, its strategic, evidence-based approach has also been able to reshape our long-term capital investment strategy and portfolio planning.

“The improved data, transparency and delivery confidence have resulted in improved delivery outcomes and community benefits, despite a challenging post-pandemic environment.

“Simply put, our community is seeing better infrastructure delivered in a far more efficient way – which is what we always strive for in Kingston.”

The national award comes after Kingston was successful at the state level earlier in the year.

Established in 2000, the Project Management Achievement Awards exist to recognise, honour, and promote outstanding achievements in program and project management. They are the premier project management awards in Australia, recognising project professionals, organisations, and outstanding projects across industries.
