National Volunteer Week 2024 celebrates our invaluable volunteers

The City of Greater Geelong is gearing up to recognise and celebrate our incredible volunteers during National Volunteer Week from 20-26 May.

National Volunteer Week is an annual occasion that aims to spotlight the profound impact of volunteers while also inspiring others to step forward and contribute to their communities.

This year’s theme, ‘Something for Everyone’, underscores the diverse passions, skills, and talents that volunteers bring to their endeavours.

Greater Geelong Mayor Trent Sullivan

It’s important to take this opportunity to sincerely thank the many volunteers who provide useful – and often vital – services to people from all walks of life.

The City currently has hundreds of volunteers working in a wide range of areas, including at the National Wool Museum, Potato Shed, and Grovedale Neighbourhood House.

Our volunteers also help deliver important community services such as L2P, a mentoring program designed to assist young learner drivers who face barriers with getting driving experience.

Thank you to all of our volunteers for giving up your valuable time to help others – you make our community a better place.

Deputy Mayor Anthony Aitken

National Volunteer Week is a great reminder that there are a variety of rewarding volunteering opportunities across Greater Geelong available to everyone.

From the Geelong Botanic Gardens to the National Wool Museum, there are so many wonderful opportunities and I encourage everyone to get involved.

One of the many things I love about Geelong is the sense of community, and our willingness to lend a hand to others in need.

It is very encouraging and inspiring to see that so many in our community have a genuine passion for helping others.

City volunteer Thelma

I assist a kinder group at Boorai Centre each week where I’ve formed great friendships with co-workers and others including 32 special friends aged three to six.

It is a real pleasure to attend every week and something I look forward to.

I could not recommend volunteering more, it makes me happy and gives such satisfaction.

If you can hold a hand, read a story, wipe a tear, listen and maybe tell a tale you can do it, and you, like me I’m sure will love it.
