National weather forecast: Rain and storms in Vic, NSW. Fine elsewhere

BOM

G’day from the bureau with your forecast around the country for Saturday the 3rd of October, and I might even give you a sneak peek of Sunday as well.

But Saturday the focus will be in south-eastern Australia with this low pressure system bringing widespread rain and thunderstorms to New South Wales, Victoria and maybe even some showers into north-eastern Tasmania.

But the focus really will be through Victoria and eastern New South Wales, where we’re going to see severe thunderstorms with large hail, damaging winds and heavy rainfall.

We also could see heavy rainfall leading to flooding through southern parts of Victoria, particularly around the Otways and West and South Gippsland. And Flood Watches are current for much of the state.

And for the latest on that, you can see our Severe Weather Warning video on our website and socials.

Also, the other weather around is the rain and thunderstorms through eastern parts of WA with rain and thunderstorms there.

But notice the west coast will be fine and dry and much of the east coast as well.

North of about Coffs Harbour and much of the Queensland coast, with just a few showers around the north tropical coast. So let’s have a look at all of that in more detail.

Firstly, in Queensland, the sunshine state that’s living up to its name once again, the only wet weather will be some showers and thunderstorms around the southern inland parts of Queensland near the New South Wales border, and also just a few showers up around the north tropical coast.

Now temperatures pretty warm into the mid to mid 30s through much of western and northern areas, and into the mid to high 20s through much of the east coast.

South-eastern parts of Queensland.

Looking at a lovely day to get out and about and to begin the long weekend for some 26 °C and partly cloudy conditions.

Moving down into New South Wales and an active day on the way.

This trough system bringing rain and thunderstorms through central and eastern areas with heavy falls possible through south-eastern areas.

Severe thunderstorms also likely through on and west of the ranges, with large hail, damaging winds and heavy rainfall, also likely.

Wagga Wagga and Canberra just a number of those places that could see some of those storms.

Rain and storms will get to the coast during the afternoon and evening hours, with some heavy falls as well. Well, fine in the far north-east and also in the far north-west.

Sydney, looking at rain and thunderstorms, 22 °C, most of that from around the mid to late morning and well into the evening. Canberra looking at rain and thunderstorms as well.

And some of those storms could be severe in the afternoon and evening with heavy rain, large hail and damaging winds.

Victoria, another active day as a low pressure system in the north wraps that round right around.

Wraps the rain around, I should say, much of the state with widespread rain and thunderstorms, heavy falls through the west and south Gippsland and also about the Otway Ranges, and Severe Weather Warnings are current there.

Severe thunderstorms also possible across much of north-eastern and possibly south-eastern Victoria as well, with heavy rainfall likely with those and flooding quite possible, particularly as some of that heavy rainfall wraps back into west and south Gippsland.

But many should see another wet and cloudy day with temperatures in the mid to high teens. Melbourne looking at 19 °C.

Another wet day and maybe breaking into showers in the afternoon and possible thunderstorms in there as well.

Heavy falls possible as well if you’re underneath any of those showers and storms.

Moving down in Tasmania, they’re going to miss most of that action across Victoria and New South Wales.

We could see some of those showers moving into the far north-eastern parts of the state, but otherwise it’s a lovely day, generally with partly cloudy conditions and temperatures in the mid to high teens.

Hobart looking at a partly cloudy 17 °C.

Moving up into South Australia and while early on they might see some of those showers through eastern areas, that’s going to clear into Victoria as we get deeper into the day on Saturday, and we’re going to see a partly cloudy day with just a possible coastal shower for our southern areas with temperatures around 20 °C, while further inland we’ll see temperatures in the mid to high 20s with partly cloudy conditions.

But if you are in the far west, you know, watch out for that rain and storms moving in late in the day.

Adelaide looking at a possible shower, clearing during the partly cloudy afternoon and 19 °C. Moving over into Western Australia.

And we’re just continuing to see widespread rain and storms throughout outback and interior districts of WA.

And that will continue again on Saturday with widespread thunderstorms, some of those likely to be severe as well, impacting our dirt roads through there.

Some of that will get into the clear as well later in the day, but once you get further west into the Wheatbelt, South West Land Division and much of the west coast, it will be a dry and mostly sunny day with temperatures in the low to mid 20s getting up into the low 30s across northern parts of the state.

Perth looking at a beautiful day, 24 °C.

Moving up into the NT and we could see those showers and thunderstorms around the south-western part of the state during the day. And some of those could be severe, so watch out for those.

But once you get further north and east, dry, sunny conditions continuing for much of the state, hot inland as we’d always see.

Maybe an afternoon shower or storm through parts of the Kimberley as well, and a possible coastal shower as well.

Darwin might even see some of those coastal showers as well, particularly popping up during the overnight and early morning hours 34 °C there.

And as I promised, a sneak peek of Sunday right around the country and a glorious day in Brisbane, 27 °C and partly cloudy.

A beautiful day for any grand final activities as the big game with the NRL Grand Final in Sydney on Sunday night, looking at 24 °C, probably dropping down into the high teens for the big game into the evening hours.

Canberra’s got some clearing showers and 20 °C, 16 °C in a few showers in Hobart.

16 °C and partly cloudy conditions as the weather eases across Victoria on Sunday, 20 °C and partly cloudy in Adelaide.

Perth also looking at 21 °C and partly cloudy conditions.

A bit of an onshore flow there so it’s a tad cooler than on Saturday and as it’s expected across our tropical north.

Hot and sunny with 33 °C with a possible shower.

So with all that weather happening in south-eastern Australia over the next 48 hours with Flood Watches, Severe Weather Warnings and severe thunderstorms, make sure you stay up to date with the latest forecast and warnings via our website and app and social media.

We’ll be back here again on Monday with your Tuesday forecast.
