National weather forecast: Wet in south-east and south-west

With your national weather forecast around the country for the first weekend of spring, September 5th and September 6th, and we’re going to have a lot of weather going on through south-eastern parts of the country.

With all modes of weather almost happening, we’re going to have heavy rain, showers, thunderstorms, hail, snow for alpine areas, damaging winds for a number of states.

And ahead of this front, we’re going to see well above average temperatures, hot, gusty winds, and even extreme fire dangers.

Well, on the other side of the country, another weather system. We’re moving into the west coast bringing showers, isolated thunderstorms, gusty winds and some moderate rainfall there. But let’s have a look at all of this in more detail.

Firstly in Queensland on Saturday and we’re going to be living up to the Sunshine State on Saturday with sunshine right across the state and getting pretty warm as well.

Temperatures in the mid to high 30s through western and inland parts of Queensland, and getting into the high 20s across coastal parts of Queensland as well.

And we’ll be flirting with 30 on the coast of Queensland as well, particularly from the Capricornia down through to south-eastern parts of Queensland, inland areas away from the coast likely to be in the low 30s, but the coastal areas will be impacted by some sea breezes there.

Brisbane. A lovely day to get out and about. A bit warm as well, but it should be nice weather for Riverfire activities. 29 °C and partly cloudy now.

Moving down into New South Wales, a tale of two halves ahead of this front. We’re going to be warm. We’re going to be windy.

We’re going to have elevated fire dangers, while with and behind this front we’re going to have widespread rain, showers, thunderstorms, maybe some heavy falls and even snow falls through our alpine areas as well later on Saturday.

But ahead of that front, warm, dry and windy with high fire danger for much of northern and eastern parts of New South Wales.

And we could even see extreme fire danger through parts of Sydney on Saturday as well.

Winds gusting 50, 60, 70 km/h and possibly even higher than that, particularly in some of our warning zones as well.

Canberra looking at rain. Possible storm there as well. Showers and much cooler. 19 °C.

They’re moving down into Victoria and it’s going to be a wild day across the state. We’re going to have a band of rain in the morning.

Then this front will sweep across with showers and thunderstorms with and behind it, damaging winds possible for elevated areas and south-western parts of the state.

Temperatures generally in the high teens to low 20s as well.

And then we could see snow developing in alpine areas during the afternoon and evening as well.

Severe thunderstorms also possible with damaging winds through some areas as well, but that will be very localised.

Melbourne looking at a windy, showery and breezy day, and 19 °C, moving down into Tasmania.

They’re going to get just a bit of this weather system as it kind of goes to their north, but still widespread rain across western and northern parts of the state.

And some of that rain might even make it into eastern areas as well. Thunderstorms are also quite possible through western parts of Tasmania.

Temperatures will also be falling during the day as well as this front moves through.

Could even see some snow flurries develop around their elevated areas through western and central parts of Tasmania late in the day, and we could also see widespread moderate to heavy falls through northern and central parts of the state.

And we do have some Flood Watches there so we could see some minor flooding develop there. So watch out for that.

Hobart looking at a wet and windy day and 15 °C, now moving up into South Australia. They’re going to see some of this weather clear out during the morning.

But still a shower and windy morning through Adelaide down towards the Mount Gambier area. While further inland it will be mild and breezy.

The cool change not getting to the north-east until late in the day.

So low 30s to the north-east corner, mid to high 20s in northern areas and high teens to low 20s for southern areas and even cooler by the coast.

Adelaide looking at morning showers and gusty winds, but it should clear up in the afternoon and 17 °C, moving over into WA.

And while eastern and southern areas will stay fine under the impact of the high pressure system, the next weather system will start approaching the south-west during the afternoon and evening.

And you see these showers developing on those coastal areas.

And that may turn to rain as we get into the Saturday night and Sunday morning timeframe. And that will spread inland during the day on Sunday.

But ahead of that, generally a partly cloudy day. Showers developing later, though, on the west coast.

Could see late showers in Perth and 20 °C, while further north, staying fine. Dry, warm and sunny. Temperatures in the high 20s to low 30s.

Now across the NT we can see warmer conditions in the south there, but the trough will move through later the day. Mostly just a wind change there and a bit of cloud.

Temperatures in the Red Centre in the high 20s to low 30s, mid 30s through central areas and mid to high 30s through northern parts of the NT.

Likely Darwin looking at a possible shower and 32 °C. Kimberley staying dry, warm and sunny.

Temperatures there in the low 30s and then having a quick sneak peek of Sunday around the country. A very hot ahead of that change day in Brisbane on Sunday.

35 °C there. So make sure you slip, slop, slap and stay cool if you’re out and about there.

Sydney. A much cooler day as that front moves through Saturday night.

23 °C and lots of sunshine there.

A much calmer day in Canberra, 19 °C, few showers lingering in Hobart, 16 °C, showers still also lingering in Melbourne, 17 °C there, clearing up in Adelaide, 17 °C, showers easing through Perth and 20 °C as that low moves through inland areas and staying pretty dry across our northern areas as well.

Darwin 32 °C and a possible shower.
