Nationals candidate for Whitlam announced

Bango grazier James Harker-Mortlock has been endorsed as The Nationals Candidate for Whitlam.

As someone who has been involved in small and medium-sized businesses for most of his life, James is a strong believer in keeping the Government focused on the needs of Australia’s largest employer – the small business sector. He is also passionate about defending the agriculture sector and improving regional services and infrastructure.

“I am honoured to be endorsed as the National Party candidate for the great seat of Whitlam – a dynamic electorate encompassing just about everything Australia has to offer – rural living, agriculture, manufacturing, coal mining, high-quality steel production and even the seaside lifestyle of the coast,” Mr Harker-Mortlock said.

“The people of Whitlam need a representative in Government able to successfully argue for long-overdue infrastructure including improvements for the Illawarra Highway, mobile blackspots, the completion of the Maldon to Dombarton railway and the provision of better public transport. I believe in a strong Australian steel industry, the maintenance of Australian engineering standards, and I support policies designed to encourage the development of our steel industry and to discourage the dumping of low-quality steel products into the Australian market.”

James has a particular interest in the welfare of farmers, taxation reform and the development of a national population plan to ensure that Australia remains a great place to live and to work.

“The National Party is the only party dedicated to the needs of Australia’s farmers,” Mr Harker-Mortlock said. “I will fight for a fair go for our farmers and, particularly in Whitlam, our dairy farmers.

We need strong local Members of Parliament that are focused on the needs of locals, not the demands of Canberra lobbyists.”
