Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme expansion: have your say

We are asking for your feedback on the expanded Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERS).

Currently, NatHERS provides an assessment rating of a home’s ‘thermal performance’. The scheme uses stars to give an assessment out of 10 based on:

  • design
  • construction materials
  • local climate.

The expansion will also include a rating out of 100 about the energy performance of the whole home, combining the heating and cooling energy needs, with the energy performance of the homes appliances:

  • heating and cooling
  • hot water
  • lighting
  • pool/spa pumps
  • on-site energy generation and storage.

The ‘whole of home’ rating and the ‘thermal’ star rating will work together to deliver the next generation of modern and sustainable homes.

New and existing homeowners will also be able to use the expanded scheme. It means all homeowners can improve the energy efficiency of their home.

Have your say on the consultation hub.

Consultation closes 16 December 2021.
