Bayside Council is hosting a free native bee workshop where residents will have the opportunity to inspect a native beehive and taste the honey.
The workshop will be run by Tim Heard from Sugarbag Bees, who will talk about Australian native bees with a special focus on the colonial species local to Sydney, Tetragonula carbonaria, or Sugarbag bees.
These stingless bees, endemic to the north-east coast of Australia and commonly known as Sugarbag bees are also occasionally referred to as bush bees.
Tim will have a hive of Sugarbag bees at the workshop, so participants will get to see the bees up close and personal and have an opportunity to taste some ‘Sugarbag’ honey from a native beehive.
