The world-class National Basketball League (NBL) 2022 Blitz tournament is on its way to the Territory with tickets on sale from Friday.

Taking place in Darwin from 16-23 September, the first game in the fixture will be between the South East Melbourne and Adelaide 36ers, with 15 games happening over eight days.

The NBL Blitz is the only time of year when all 10 NBL teams converge in one location to prepare for the season ahead, which begins on 1 October. All the teams will take part in community engagement initiatives while in the Territory.

Having events like this in the Territory is good for local business, tourism and our Territory kids. Recently, the Territory Government announced a $100,000 Community Benefit Fund Grant for the Darwin Basketball Association to install a 344-seat portable grandstand.

Fans will have the chance to watch the biggest stars in Australian basketball on the court, including Bullets’ superstar Aron Baynes and a revamped Adelaide with Antonius Cleveland and Robert Franks out to flex their muscles. The Blitz is also a showcase of the sport’s future stars.

“Basketball is booming in the Territory, with strong participation numbers and the impressive performance of the Darwin Salties in their inaugural NBL1 North season really fuelling the fire.

“The NBL Blitz will see an influx of people into the Territory, including not only the teams and their support crews, but also interstate fans using the match as a chance to enjoy a holiday here. We have 15 games taking place over eight days right here in Darwin, plus a 3×3 Pro

Hustle tournament. Combined with all our unique tourism experiences, people are in for the trip of a lifetime.

“We’re thrilled to be heading to Darwin. The Territory is filled with passionate sporting fans who are eager to engage and connect with a professional sporting league, and they will be able to do that during the NBL Blitz.

“We thank the Northern Territory Government for their support of the Blitz.
