Nearly $175,000 worth of grants awarded to enrich and connect region

62 community groups, clubs, organisations and neighbourhood houses are celebrating after receiving grants from the City of Greater Geelong totalling $174,900.

A total of 15 Neighbourhood Houses Grants and subsidies worth $141,500 aim to assist in the delivery of needs-based programs and projects for the community, including:

  • $11,500 to the Bellarine Living and Learning Centre towards a 3219 postcode food security and sustainability project;
  • $11,500 to help run a Feed-Share-Connect space at the Norlane Community Centre;
  • $11,500 for the Cloverdale Community Centre towards the Enhancing Community Resilience: Addressing Rising Energy Costs and Bill Shock in Corio and Norlane project; and
  • $11,500 to assist men’s programs at Geelong West Neighbourhood House.

Twenty grants totalling $9,920 have been awarded for Children’s Week, an international event designated by the United Nations, running from 21-29 October 2023 in the Geelong region. Grants, which help organisations to celebrate the unique contributions of children, include:

  • $500 to Geelong Area Multiple Births Association for Yoga with Families of Multiples
  • $500 to hold a Wild West Rodeo Children’s Party at the Northern Bay College Family Learning Centre
  • $470 to Geelong City Cricket Club for an All Girls Cricket Blast – Come and Try Event and
  • $500 to SalamFest to hold a Muslim Children’s Week Celebration.

27 Positive Ageing grants worth $23,480 will support workshops, dances, concerts and sporting activities that celebrate positive ageing by increasing social connection and physical activity, in line with the City’s Positive Ageing Strategy. They include:

  • $1,000 to the Seaview Club for a rock’n’roll dance event
  • $1,000 for the Geelong Youth Orchestra to hold free concert performances for seniors from aged care
  • $800 for an intergenerational story and teatime event run by EdConnect Australia and
  • $450 to the Ocean Grove & District Men’s Shed for a come and try day.

Currently, the Clean Economy and First Nations Cultural Heritage grants are open for applications.
