Nerang Seniors Savings pop-up puts money back in pocket of locals

More than 2000 older people have already visited the Palaszczuk Government’s Seniors Savings pop-ups to discover how they can benefit from savings on offer, with the latest pop-up visiting Nerang today (14 November 2019).

Member for Gaven Meaghan Scanlon visited the pop-up at My Centre Nerang to see first-hand how the Seniors Savings team is assisting local seniors with signing up to the popular Queensland Seniors Card scheme and providing information about concessions.

“Our Seniors Cards and concessions can make a real difference in easing cost of living pressures for older Queenslanders, and I want to ensure all eligible seniors here on the Gold Coast are taking advantage of the concessions and discounts to which they are entitled,” she said.

“The Palaszczuk Government’s concessions for seniors help them save money on a range of goods and services, including electricity, medical aids, public transport and vehicle registration.

“The first stall at this year’s Ekka was a resounding success, and since then we have visited Forest Lake, Ipswich, Mount Gravatt, Chermside, Springfield, Capalaba, Ipswich, North Lakes, Morayfield, Townsville and the Gold Coast.

“We’ve had an amazing turnout at these pop-ups from seniors seeking more information about the services and supports we provide and how they can benefit from Seniors Cards and concessions.

“Over the coming months, I encourage older Queenslanders to visit Seniors Savings pop-ups as they continue visiting a number of Queensland communities.”

Local shopping centres in Toowoomba, Hervey Bay, Bundaberg, Mackay, Rockhampton, Gladstone, Cairns and Mount Isa will be visited in the first five months of next year.

Seniors Minister Coralee O’Rourke said Seniors Savings pop-ups formed part of the Palaszczuk Government’s commitment to creating thriving, age-friendly communities.

“We want Queenslanders, regardless of their age or personal circumstances, to be able to participate and be included in their communities, be resilient and enjoy social and economic wellbeing,” Mrs O’Rourke said.

The roadshow is visiting a total of 24 locations across the state, from Cairns to the Gold Coast until the end of May 2020.
