  • Enrolments have already grown to around 125
  • Palaszczuk Government has delivered 25 new schools since 2015

The South Rock State School is officially open, following a special event this morning.

Education Minister Grace Grace joined State Member for Logan Linus Power and the school community today to mark the official opening of the new $69 million Prep to Year 6 school in Yarrabilba.

Opening its doors on day one of the 2023 school year, South Rock has already seen student numbers grow from 82 to around 125.

The school name of ‘South Rock’ was chosen in consultation with Traditional Custodians and the local community, to reflect a natural sandstone outcrop from the area that holds significant cultural importance.

It has also embedded the local traditional Yugambeh language throughout the school, working with a Cultural Advisory Group.

Featuring classrooms for Prep, middle and senior primary classes, a multi-purpose hall, administration block and a resource centre, the new school also includes a canteen, sports oval and other amenities.

The school will be expanded in the future, with the current Stage 1 capacity of approximately 800 students set to rise to more than a 1300 enrolment capacity once all stages are delivered.
