The Territory Government has this week announced completion of eight new homes in Katherine under a joint development with Venture Housing to provide affordable housing for key workers.
Housing in Katherine has been identified as a barrier to attracting key workers and boosting the population, so the Territory Government has provided land and funding to undertake this development.
$2 million of Government funding has gone into building these eight new homes, with two three-bedroom and six two-bedroom units in the complex.
Jointly funded by Venture Housing, this development will provide homes that are prioritised for key workers to assist staff attraction and retention.
For local employers like Kentish Early Learning Centre, having access to affordable housing prioritised for key workers enables strong recruitment campaigns to overcome workforce shortages.
The homes are intended to accommodate key workers in sectors such as tourism and hospitality, retail, trades, education and childcare to stimulate jobs growth and strengthen the local economy.
An additional housing development is nearing completion in Katherine through the Government’s capital works program to ease housing pressures.
