New arts opportunities for QPRC

Art Gallery

‘It’s an exciting time to be an artist here,’ Mayor Kenrick Winchester said after Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council recently re-joined Southern Tablelands Arts (STA). ‘This relationship will help us support our vibrant arts community and create a range of opportunities for residents and visitors alike.’

STA is a state-wide network of Regional Arts Development Organisations. Its purpose is to energise arts by supporting, creating, educating and advocating for both artists and arts initiatives across the region. STA direct state-funded grants into their member communities and provide a platform to connect, advertise exhibitions and competitions, and support new programs.

STA have a digital library of arts activities for young and old, provide educational workshops for schools, and post weekly featured artists from their member regions.

All residents can become STA members for free and we encourage our local creatives to join.

‘We’re hitting the road across QPRC to share information and talk to the community,’ said STA Executive Director Rose Marin. ‘With the creative sector so deeply affected by the pandemic this is an opportunity for people to hear how STA can support their creative ideas and projects.’

As part of the STA Reconnect program, Rose Marin and Council’s Janita Byrne will visit:

  • Queanbeyan 10am-1pm 24 August at Rusten House
  • Braidwood 10am-1pm 5 September at Council Chambers
  • Bungendore 10am-1pm 6 September at Council Chambers
  • Captains Flat 10am-1pm 12 September at the Community Centre

At these sessions, residents can learn how to access Country Arts Support Program grants, the STA artist-in-residence program, exhibition, and competition opportunities, and become listed on the STA Creative Directory.
