2024 marks an exciting new approach for the Shire with the creation of a dedicated in-house Building Maintenance team.

The new four-person team has been setup to take care of the all the little things that need fixing, including small maintenance and repair jobs across approximately 500 Shire-owned and managed buildings. From minor carpentry jobs to furniture and hardware installation, this team is already working hard ticking jobs off the list.

The team of multi-skilled tradespersons is part of a planned new approach to maintaining the Shire’s buildings. The current buildings maintenance contract is coming to an end in June, and procurement is underway for a series of direct building maintenance contracts. Successful tenderers will be announced over the next six months.

2024 is a big year for the Shire, with many of our infrastructure maintenance contracts due to end in June. Successful tenders for Tree Management, Bushland Management and Open Spaces will be announced soon. Last week, we informed our community that the Road Corridors Maintenance contract has been awarded to Fulton Hogan Industries.

We encourage our community to report any issues with Shire infrastructure that they come across. Whether it be a broken lock on a public toilet, potholes, dumped rubbish or graffiti – it’s super helpful when our residents inform us! Go to mornpen.vic.gov.au/reportit

Quotes attributable to Mayor Councillor Simon Brooks:

“You’ll notice our new Building Maintenance team branded vans zipping around the Peninsula.

“The Shire owns and maintains more than 500 community facilities. Many of these were built in the 60s and 70s and with age comes lots of odd maintenance jobs. From a financial perspective, it makes sense to have a maintenance team in house to get small repair and maintenance jobs done.”
