Northern Grampians Shire Council welcomes the announcement of a new and improved bus timetable and new bus routes for Stawell.

The new timetable will see a more frequent service, six days a week, which from 2 March will combine the three existing bus routes into two higher-frequency routes, along with new Saturday services.

Northern Grampians Shire Council Mayor, Murray Emerson, said the new bus routes will give the people of the Northern Grampians more freedom of movement.

“Getting around can sometimes be difficult in a regional area but these new bus routes will allow the people of Stawell and surrounds to move more easily,” he said.

“These bus routes have been carefully planned in consultation with the community and reflect what the community were asking for.”

“By combining the three existing routes, the new timetable is more streamlined and allows for more frequency of service which residents have been calling out for.”

“More stops, more people and a better service. It’s pretty simple.”

The new timetable includes 10 services on each route on weekdays and five services per route on Saturdays – 30 more services per week than the current timetable provides.

The improved routes will offer more coverage to key destinations including local businesses, Central Park, the Stawell Sports and Aquatic Centre, Stawell West Primary School and Stawell Secondary College.

New bus stops are under construction around town to accommodate the network changes, giving residents along the routes better access to public transport.

Minister for Public Transport Melissa Horne visited Stawell today to announce the new bus services.

“By offering more services more often, we’re making it easier for Stawell locals to head down to the shops, travel to school or visit friends and family across town – exactly when they need to,” she said.

“We’ve worked closely with the Stawell community to make sure these changes deliver the bus network that locals need.”
