The Allan Labor Government is making it easier for Victorians to explore the great outdoors this long weekend, with new and upgraded campgrounds and caravan parks now open right across Victoria.
Minister for Environment Steve Dimopoulos today announced the completion of all 63 projects funded through the $6.6 million Camping and Caravan Grants program – part of the Labor Government’s more than $106 million investment in Victoria’s Great Outdoors.
Over the past three years, 63 camping and caravan parks have been transformed, offering new and upgraded recreational facilities including cabins, playgrounds, camp kitchens, and accessible toilets and showers.
Victorians are encouraged to visit the state’s freshly upgraded campgrounds like Gentle Annie Caravan and Camping Reserve in Whitfield, which received a $200,000 upgrade for a new female shower block, four additional toilets, and an accessible bathroom with a baby change table.
Other improvements include the revamped Warracknabeal Caravan Park, which boasts a variety of new amenities such as a laundry facility, more showers and toilets, and an accessible toilet and shower room.
The Labor Government is making campgrounds and caravan parks more accessible for people with a disability, with $200,000 for a new accessible playground, half basketball court, and BBQ facilities at the Echuca Holiday Park.
The community-run Wycheproof Caravan Park now also boasts new accessible shower and toilet facilities, providing all guests with safe and equal access to the park.
These investments are crucial to ensuring that people of all abilities and ages can enjoy outdoor spaces and activities comfortably and safely.
Mountain biking enthusiasts will appreciate the improved parking, new toilets, and fire pits at Picnic Gully Campground in La Larr Ba Gauwa Park near Bendigo. This project was funded through a $200,000 grant and delivered in partnership with Dja Dja Wurrung enterprise DJANDAK.
