New CEO appointed

Shellharbour City Council has announced the appointment of Michael Archer as its new Chief Executive Officer following a comprehensive nationwide search.

Mr Archer has been CEO of the City of Busselton in Western Australia since 2010. Previously he was Acting Director Infrastructure Services/City Projects Administrator at the City of Joondalup and CEO of the Shire of Esperance.

Mayor Councillor Chris Homer said Mr Archer was a standout applicant who would bring commitment and enthusiasm to the role.

“I am delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Archer as Council’s new CEO. I warmly welcome him to the organisation, and look forward to working with him,” Mayor Homer said.

“Mr Archer has a strong record in local government and embodies Council’s core values of collaboration, accountability, integrity, respect and sustainability. I believe he will be a great asset to the organisation and the community.

“The Councillors and I voted unanimously to offer the role to Mr Archer. The quality of the applicants was outstanding and the extensive recruitment process drew interest from all over Australia,” Mayor Homer said.

Mr Archer said he felt privileged to have been appointed as Shellharbour City Council’s new CEO.

“After a wonderful career in Western Australia, I am excited about the opportunity to work on the east coast of Australia,” Mr Archer said.

“Shellharbour is a wonderfully diverse city blessed with a stunning natural environment. I want to give credit to the Council for its many achievements and the quality facilities and services it provides to the community.

“I am very excited to be joining such a fantastic team. I have been extremely impressed with the enthusiasm of the Mayor and Councillors and I look forward to working with the leadership team and meeting Council employees,” he said.

Mr Archer spoke highly about the role and the opportunities for Shellharbour City.

“Shellharbour City is one of the fastest-growing local government areas. I am particularly excited about the opportunities that come with working for an award-winning progressive Council,” Mr Archer said.

Mayor Homer said that he looked forward to announcing Mr Archer’s start date very soon.
