New Chairperson appointed to Rottnest Island Authority Board

  • Current Rottnest Island Authority Board Deputy Chairperson Hamish Beck has been appointed as Board Chairperson for three years to October 15, 2024.

    Mr Beck’s appointment follows the resignation of John Langoulant, who was appointed Board Chair in 2017, to take up the role as the new Agent General for Western Australia in the United Kingdom/Europe region.

    Mr Beck was first appointed Member and Deputy Chairperson of the RIA Board in 2016 and is passionate about the sustainability of Rottnest Island. He has previously been a member of the Rottnest Island marine advisory committee, chaired the sub-committee for the development of the eco-sustainable resort at Pinky Beach and been involved in tree planting on the Island for over three decades.

    As Principal/Managing Director of Beck Advisory, a Perth-based strategic advisory and asset management business, he has more than 25 years involvement in the property industry with substantial experience in tourism, commercial and asset management.

    Mr Beck is Chairperson of the Swan River Trust, member of the Central Perth Planning Committee, Deputy Chairman of the Historic Heart of Perth, member of the Western Australian Maritime Museum Advisory Committee, board member of the Cockburn Sound Management Council and retired as Independent Non-Executive Director of ASX-listed Primewest Group.

    Communications and government relations manager Guy Houston also joins the Board.

    A former journalist with the ABC and Channel 7, Mr Houston is Strategic Projects Advisor for Australian Capital Equity, owner of Seven Group Holdings.

    He was also Chief of Staff to the Premier of Western Australia Mark McGowan, from 2017-21.

    Mr Houston’s term expires October 15, 2024.

    As stated by Tourism Minister David Templeman:

    “The Island and Rottnest Island Authority have benefited greatly from John Langoulant’s leadership over the past four years.

    “John has been a passionate and committed Chair who has overseen significant transformation of the Island and RIA.

    “I am also very pleased that Hamish has taken on the role of Chairperson of the Rottnest Island Authority Board.

    “He is well placed to continue the program to transform the Island while maintaining its essential character and accessibility for future generations.”
