NT Government

7 February 2022

As part of Planning Reform in the Northern Territory, the Territory Government is increasing transparency for proposed developments and rezoning through improved signage.

The new signs for proposed developments will increase transparency in the NT’s planning system, and will now include an image of the proposed use of the development, providing greater context to the community and stakeholders.

The signs will better inform Territorians of the proposed use and development of land by providing additional information from the start of the proposal project.

The development application signs are applicable to all types of development applications in Darwin, Palmerston, Litchfield and Alice Springs regions, and include:

a customised image of the proposed developmenta QR code that links directly to the planning notices websitethe application number, anddetails of any proposed ‘key’ variations, including building height, setbacks, car parking, residential density and / or minimum lot sizes.

This improvement is another element of Planning Reform, and forms part of an improved process for applicants, with applications now submitted via the online Development Application portal at here.

There is no increase in the cost of development applications with the roll out of the improved signage.
