New Committee and Reference Groups to drive North Richmond revitalisation

Local Richmond resident and former Chair of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Cheryl Batagol PSM has been announced as the co-chair of the new North Richmond Precinct Community Committee (the committee), sharing the role with former Victoria Police Commissioner, Ken Lay AO APM.

Ms Batagol and Mr Lay will lead the establishment of an overarching long-term vision for the North Richmond precinct, helping advise the Government and partners on strategies and actions to improve the local community.

The new committee will guide a program of community engagement activities and will work closely with three new reference groups to create a united and focused approach on issues of importance in North Richmond. The committee will also advise on opportunities to build local skills and nurture community leadership.

Representation is vital to making this process work. Nominations are now open from business and community members interested in participating on the new committee and reference groups, looking at:

  • Safety, Neighbourhood and Amenity
  • Economic Revitalisation and Inclusion
  • Community Participation, Health and Wellbeing

Building on existing work to improve access to health services, increase security and enhance amenity and street cleanliness in the area, the Victorian Government recently announced $9 million towards precinct improvements, including $3 million to support projects identified in partnership with the local community.

Together the committee and the reference groups will play a significant role in advising on strategies to support the $3 million in funding for neighborhood renewal projects.
