Council has continued its long-standing relationship with Surf Lifesaving Queensland (SLSQ) through a new five-year contract.
SLSQ has provided lifeguard services to Cairns for the past 32 years and become an active member of the community, including participation in non-traditional lifesaving activities such as crocodile management and marine stinger research.
The new contract covers lifesaving services at Cairns beaches, Esplanade Lagoon and Green Island.
Council also awarded a five-year contact to Cairns-based Uninet Enclosure Systems to provide stinger nets at local beaches.
Uninet was established over 30 years ago to supply and service marine stinger resistant enclosures on North Queensland beaches.
