James McIntyre has been officially sworn in as a councillor at Surf Coast Shire Council, following his success in a Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) countback.

Cr McIntyre is the new councillor for the Winchelsea Ward. The vacancy was created after Cr Carol McGregor resigned last month following almost four years in the role.

The VEC countback was held Tuesday 2 July. Cr McIntyre was declared the winner in a countback of votes from the general election held in October 2016. The Gherang resident was sworn in as a councillor on Tuesday 9 July. He was excited to take on the role of representing his community.

“I’m looking forward to coming on board and doing my best for the Winchelsea Ward,” he said.

“I’m also looking forward to the challenge that being a councillor brings.

“I would like to thank Carol McGregor for the work she has done in the past term-and-a-half.”

Mayor Rose Hodge was delighted to welcome a new face to Council.

“On behalf of Council, I would like to congratulate Cr McIntyre on the result,” Cr Hodge said.

“We’re looking forward to working with him and learning more about his community’s needs and aspirations. It’s always exciting to hear a new voice on Council.”

Cr McIntyre joins Cr Heather Wellington as a Winchelsea Ward councillor.
