New Director of Mines

Sarah Courtney,Minister for Resources

I welcome the appointment of the new Director of Mines, Mr Kevin Robinson.

Mr Robinson has broad national and international experience as a CEO and Company Chair in the mining industry.

Having grown up on the North West Coast and having studied geology at the University of Tasmania, Mr Robinson has a local understanding of Tasmania’s mining sector which complements his international experience.

The Government is committed to continuing to promote and develop the minerals industry in Tasmania, including through the $2 million dollar Exploration Drilling Grant Initiative, designed to encourage exploration in underexplored prospective regions of the State, and the Geoscience Initiative Program which is improving geoscientific information provision that will underpin the next generation of mineral exploration.

Mr Robinson’s extensive and diverse professional work as a geologist and resource company manager both domestically and internationally, coupled with at least 20 years experience on company boards, stands him in good stead to take on the role of Director and help propel Tasmania into the next era of mineral industry interest and investment.

I look forward to working closely with Mr Robinson in taking Tasmania’s mining industry to the next level.
