Award winning Tasmanian architecture company Cumulus Studio has been engaged to plan and shape a new public shelter at Ben Lomond National Park.

Minister for Environment and Parks Roger Jaensch said the shelter would provide an important recreational asset in northern Tasmania all year-round.

“The new shelter is good news and will improve the visitor experience by providing an entry point to the village through a heated internal area, along with amenities including public toilets.

“The snowfield activities at Ben Lomond have always proved popular with visitors, and this will ensure visitors and locals alike can use modern facilities while enjoying this stunning natural location.”

Member for Lyons John Tucker said the new shelter would replace the previous shelter that was destroyed by fire in 2018 and would support local jobs in our economic recovery from COVID-19.

“The new shelter will provide a great location to take in the views of the skifields and surrounding park, and will ensure we are delivering a high-quality visitor experience into the future.”

The new public shelter is expected to be operational by winter 2021.
