New facilities for storm impacted Canberrans

Support services at the Molonglo ACT Rural Fire Service facility have been expanded today to include shower and laundry facilities.

Three showers and three washers and dryers will now be available for community use to help people who remain without power.

Opening hours for the facility have also been extended and will now be open from 11am to 7pm, with the new shower and laundry services available from 11am today. The facility will be open until Sunday. Further advice will be provided to the community if these arrangements change.

The facility is located at the Molonglo ACT Rural Fire Service Brigade, 27 Drake-Brockman Dr, Higgins, ACT.

Other support services available onsite include:

  • charging stations for phones and mobile devices
  • ice for eskies
  • food waste disposal
  • ongoing incident information and advice.

Staff and volunteers at the facility are also able to provide information for people who need support with food and other essential items. Several local food pantries are providing assistance at this time. Details can be found in the Emergency and Food Relief Guide on the Volunteering ACT website.

If you know anyone who is currently without power or access to social media or internet, we encourage you to reach out and pass along this information.

We remind community members that it is important to practice COVID-19 behaviours when attending the facility by wearing masks, social distancing and signing in with Check In CBR. This helps to keep everyone safe.

We also ask that you do not attend the community facility if you are isolating, required to quarantine or are COVID-19 positive. People affected by COVID-19 restrictions should call the COVID-19 Helpline on (02) 6207 7244 for advice.
