New Farmers Market Launches In Mount Martha

  • Minister for Suburban Development

Visitors and residents of the Mornington Peninsula will enjoy more seasonal produce from local farms with the launch of a new farmers market in Mount Martha, thanks to support from the Andrews Labor Government’s Pick My Project initiative.

Member for Nepean Chris Brayne joined the market’s first twilight event on Friday to officially launch the project.

The Mount Martha Farmers Market project received $149,900 in funding from the Pick My Project initiative and was one of 31 successful projects funded in the Southern Metropolitan region.

Located at the Mt Martha House Community Centre and Parade Lawn, the market provides fresh produce from the Mornington Peninsula – supporting local businesses and jobs, and attracting visitors to the region.

The bi-monthly market also features live music, children’s activities, workshops and community programs as well as the promotion of sustainable farming and zero-waste initiatives.

Pick My Project is a $30 million community grants program that empowered Victorians to pitch ideas to make their local community an even better place to live, then vote for their favourite projects to be funded.

Pick My Project has awarded funding to 237 projects state-wide with grants of between $20,000 and $200,000 allocated between Victoria’s six metropolitan and nine regional partnership areas.

Since 2018 the Southern Metropolitan region has received more than $3.6 million in funding through Pick My Project, after more than 37,000 votes were cast across the region’s local communities.
