Kiama Council is replacing the old fencing at the Kiama Showground, part of the ongoing refurbishments of the iconic site.
The old timber rails have made way for modern fencing made from recycled plastic.
Council’s crew are installing 450 metres of the new fencing, which is 98% recycled plastic.
The new fence retains the strength and durability of traditional materials, but won’t crack, rot or split and is resistant to termites.
Importantly the new fence represents the equivalent to half a million disposal plastic packaging items that would have otherwise gone to landfill.
This initiative was made possible thanks to NSW Government funding provided through the Showground Stimulus Package and Better Waste Recycling Fund.
Council has now completed a significant number of the projects that are part of the overall Kiama Showground Renewal.
These include upgrades to the sports field lighting, installation of new stockyards, elevated western seating and two new mobile grandstands.
