New George Town Aquatic Centre To Open

Tasmanian Government

Nick Duigan, Minister for Sport

Families, swimmers and community groups are set to make a splash this summer, with construction now complete on the new George Town Aquatic Centre.

The state-of-the-art facility offers a heated indoor 25-metre pool, a warm-water program pool, a gymnasium and fitness room, allied health suites and a café.

The project was delivered through a partnership between the Australian Government, who contributed $15 million, the Tasmanian Government investing $2.5 million and George Town Council, ensuring the centre can continue to serve the community for decades to come.

The Centre will offer recreational swimming, lap swimming, learn-to-swim programs, warm water therapy, fitness activities and health services.

The George Town Aquatic Centre will open to the public in the coming weeks.

The facility was designed by Philp Lighton Architects and constructed by Fairbrother, both local Tasmanian firms.
