New Gifted and Talented program to launch at Alkimos College in Perth’s north

  • New Gifted and Talented program to begin for selected Year 7 students in 2022
  • Alkimos College to become the 24th public school with a dedicated Gifted and Talented program
  • Alkimos College in Perth’s far northern suburbs will soon be home to a new academic Gifted and Talented program, Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery announced today.

The program will begin with up to 32 selected Year 7 students in 2022 and expand to cater for selected students from Year 7 to Year 10 by 2025.

Interested parents can apply next month for children in Year 5 to undergo an academic selection process for a place in a Gifted and Talented program. If their child is selected for the program and accepts the place, they will begin as Year 7 students in 2022.

Placing the program at Alkimos College will mean that there is program for academically gifted students located in Perth’s growing northern corridor.

Teachers will be selected on merit to teach in the program and will receive appropriate professional learning to support them in their role.

Once the program begins at Alkimos College there will be Gifted and Talented programs across academic, arts and languages streams in 24 public secondary schools, supplemented by an online Gifted and Talented program for students in the regions.
