New global ranking results place 24 Curtin subjects in Australia’s top 10

Curtin University has achieved rankings in 37 of the 54 subjects assessed in the 2019 Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, including being named among the top 10 in Australia for 24 subjects.

Released by the Academic Ranking of World Universities’ publisher ShanghaiRanking Consultancy, the latest edition shows Curtin’s continued improved performance, up from 33 subjects last year.

Curtin University Vice-Chancellor Professor Deborah Terry said Curtin was committed to producing research that makes a difference to our global community.

“Curtin continued its strong performance with seven subjects ranked in the world’s top 100 and 24 subjects ranked in Australia’s top 10, including being second nationally for mathematics and equal-second for chemical engineering,” Professor Terry said.

“Curtin has ranked 11th in the world and 5th in Australia for mining and mineral engineering in this edition, confirming the area’s international standing and making it the University’s highest global ranking subject.”

The seven Curtin subjects listed in the world’s top 100 include mining and mineral engineering, hospitality and tourism management, earth sciences, chemical engineering, nursing, remote sensing and education.

The 2019 edition of the Global Ranking of Academic Subjects measured the performance of more than 4,000 universities across 54 subjects spanning five fields, including engineering; life sciences; medical sciences; natural sciences; and social sciences.

In the Times Higher Education Young University Rankings, Curtin was ranked equal 55th among the world’s top universities aged 50 years and under, a rise of 13 places from last year’s results.

The Times Higher Education Young University Rankings are based on the same 13 performance indicators as the flagship Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
