  • New GP bulk billing data backs in the need for our Australia-first GP Guarantee, which aims to ensure that when you need to see a GP, you’ll be able to see a GP.

The new data from healthcare directory Cleanbill reportedly shows that Tasmania has four of the nine electorates in Australia without a bulk-billing clinic.

“The provision of GPs is a Federal responsibility but we are stepping up to the plate,” Minister for Health, Guy Barnett said.

“Under our GP Guarantee, we will establish “GP NOW”, a team of 10 GPs employed directly by the State Government, who will be available to be deployed directly to areas of GP shortage.

“Additionally, we will pay the HECS fees of 40 graduate GPs, on the proviso that they live and work in Tasmania for at least five years.

“We will also make available a pool of funding to existing local GP clinics to allow them to strengthen their practice, for example by employing a nurse practitioner.

“Only a re-elected Rockliff majority Liberal Government has a 2030 Strong Plan for a better health system.”
