New heights for Jindabyne Library with donation of alpine history

Perisher historical donation to Jindabyne Library - Cheryl Smith (Coordinator Library Services), Brian Farmer (Perisher Historical Society), Fiona Wharton (Library Services)

Jindabyne Library is thrilled to announce the donation by the Perisher Historical Society of an impressive collection of 40 books on the history and environment of the alpine region.

This invaluable donation will provide our community with a rare and high-quality resource for local readers, researchers and schools. The collection will now be housed safely at Jindabyne Library, with access to the collection provided as in-library reference materials on request across the region.

An official hand-over ceremony was held on Wednesday 19 April 2023, with the collection progressively available for viewing by the public as cataloguing work is completed.

The Perisher Historical Society has produced a number of publications since their formation in 2007, with many receiving awards from the International Skiing History Association.

In addition to the historical collection, Jindabyne Library will receive two copies of each of the society’s published books, which include fascinating reads such as Highway to Heaven by Peter Southwell-Keely, George Petersen’s Kosciusko by George Petersen, and Johnny Abbottsmith by Peter Southwell-Keely.

The Jindabyne Library is grateful for the generous donation from the Perisher Historical Society and is excited to make the collection accessible to a wider audience and our local community.

Perisher Historical Society will retain its digital collections accessible through the society’s eMuseum website at https://perisherhistory.org.au
