A new exhibition exploring the complexity of relationships with technology, nature and the posthuman is currently on display at the Wagga Wagga Art Gallery.
Dissonant Terrain by Melbourne-based artist Yandell Walton features a range of digital mediums, including computer-generated images, video, sound, lighting, and sculpture.
Yandell Walton is a highly regarded artist whose installations are known for their immersive nature, blurring the lines between reality and virtual, and exploring ideas of impermanence in relation to environmental, social and political issues.
Yandell’s practice is driven by her emotional responses to the climate crisis, with recent work focusing on ecological shifts in landscapes due to human impact.
This exhibition is an outcome of Yandell Walton’s 2022 artist residency in the Amazon Rainforest in South America, an environment considered the lungs of the earth and is under critical threat from forest clearing.
“Through Dissonant Terrain, I aim to engage and inspire action from individuals towards a collective consciousness within an ever-changing and increasingly damaged planet.” Ms Walton said.
Wagga Wagga Art Gallery Director Dr Lee-Anne Hall said “Dissonant Terrain connects with Green 2023 – the gallery’s year of environmental exhibitions and programs aiming to encourage visitors to reflect upon their own environmental impact.”
