A new traineeship and mentoring program has kicked off in Kalgoorlie, providing on-the-job experience, employment and tailored mentorship to new trainees working on the Kalgoorlie City Centre project.
Two trainees have commenced the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder program: Krystal Stokes joining the Occupational Health and Safety team and Harrison Garwood as a trainee Business Support Officer.
In their roles, the program trainees will support the delivery of the jointly funded Kalgoorlie City Centre project, which will completely refurbish St Barbara Square and the Laneway to the rear entrance of the City Markets Arcade.
The traineeship program is part of the Kalgoorlie City Centre Aboriginal Economic Development Strategy, which supports initiatives to improve the engagement and retention of Aboriginal employees.
The McGowan Government has invested $8 million in the Kalgoorlie City Centre project.
As stated by Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan:
“The traineeship and mentoring program will allow Aboriginal trainees hands-on experience, on a large-scale community infrastructure project.
“Participants will receive valuable workplace-based training, including certificates and direct mentoring support, to help develop their career pathways.
“This is a great program to achieve real tangible job outcomes for Aboriginal people, and to support delivery of the Kalgoorlie City Centre project.”
As stated by Kalgoorlie MLA Ali Kent:
“I’m excited to see the Kalgoorlie City Centre project finally commencing and look forward to seeing the works progress.
“The traineeship program as part of the Kalgoorlie City Centre Aboriginal Economic Development Strategy is a significant initiative to improve the engagement and retention of Aboriginal employees.”
