The Andrews Labor Government has delivered a new, state-of-the-art education facility for inner city families, with South Melbourne Park Primary School opening its doors for the first time.
Minister for Education James Merlino and Member for Albert Park Martin Foley joined staff and students to celebrate the opening of the $31 million school, which features revitalised heritage buildings, modern classrooms, performing arts facilities and a gym.
South Melbourne Park Primary School was built to meet the growing inner-city enrolment demand for primary education and can accommodate 550 students from Prep to Year 6.
Located in Albert Park Reserve, the school is surrounded by unique flora and fauna and is close to sporting facilities including the Victorian Institute of Sport, Athletics Victoria, and the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre.
The school is one of nine new Victorian government schools opening this term and one of 100 new schools to open across the state over the next eight years under the Labor Government’s school building program.
The Labor Government has already invested more than $3.8 billion to deliver new schools and more than 1,300 school upgrades, supporting more than 5,000 construction jobs for Victorians.
That building boom will continue over the coming years, with builders already appointed to start delivering 11 schools across the state that will open in 2020.
