The latest jewel in the crown on Gateway Island is taking shape, as contractors press ahead with the construction of the Gateway Island Cultural Trail along the banks of the Murray River.
The five-kilometre trail has been graded and road base is now being added.
The trail will feature works by Aboriginal artists – Treahna Hamm, Patricia Cerminara, Mick Bogie and Tamara Murray – in celebration of Indigenous stories and points of interest along the route.
When completed, the trail will open up more spectacular Murray-side country to riders and walkers, complementing the existing Eddie Kneebone Walk and the recently-refurbished Burraja Cultural Centre.
The project is funded by the Australian Government through the Albury Wodonga Regional Deal, the Victorian Governmen’s Regional Infrastructure Fund, and Wodonga Council.
It’s scheduled for completion by June this year.
