New large-scale mural at Shellharbour Airport

Visitors to Shellharbour Airport’s new passenger terminal will be greeted with a vibrant large-scale mural by local Illawarra artist Trait, aka Kane Horspool.

The mural features two black swans rising out of Waratah flowers in a loving embrace.

The different native species in the design are reflective of the Illawarra’s diverse natural landscapes with the black swans representing the coastal plain, the Waratahs, the highlands, and Illawarra Flame tree flowers, the Illawarra escarpment.

Shellharbour Mayor Marianne Saliba said that the bold new mural would enhance the space and add to visitors overall experience at the terminal.

“Council is committed to implementing initiatives to make the city a dynamic and vibrant place where creativity thrives,” Cr Saliba said.

“The mural design beautifully reflects the natural local surrounds and will contribute to the first impression for new visitors flying in to the Shellharbour Airport,” she said.

Trait was a part of Shellharbour City Councils mural festival held in January this year where he created the Stronger Together mural located in McKeon Lane carpark, Warilla.
