New Learning Space Perfect Birthday Gift

  • Minister for Education

Students at Yarra Junction Primary School are enjoying the use of a $2 million building with classrooms and a flexible activity space thanks to the Andrews Labor Government.

Minister for Education James Merlino today opened the striking architect-designed learning facility for grade five and six students at Yarra Junction Primary School.

The building includes a new fit out of reception, administration and staff facilities, a refurbished music block and landscaped grounds.

The facility’s flexible design means open space can be used for presentations and school gatherings, while a courtyard around the entry provides an extra outdoor learning area for students.

The opening was part of the school’s ‘Step Back In Time’ celebrations which mark the school’s 125 year anniversary. The school was established in 1894 and plays an active role in the local Yarra Junction community.

The Labor Government is investing $6.1 billion to deliver more than 1,400 school upgrades and 100 new schools to open by 2026, ensuring every child has a great local school and a great start in life.

This building boom will continue over the coming years, with the government delivering 11 new schools across the state due to open in 2020.

As stated by Minister for Education James Merlino

“Yarra Junction Primary School has been teaching local students for 125 years – I’m proud to be opening new facilities that will ensure this great school continues to go from strength to strength.”

“This terrific new building uses a modern floorplan to open possibilities for learning and teaching, while the sensitive design helps it sit well in its rural surroundings.”
