From May, we will begin swapping your garbage and recycling bin lids as part of the Victorian Government’s Recycling Victoria Policy.
Once completed, all garbage bins will have a red lid and recycling bins a yellow lid.
Having Australian Standard bin colours across Stonnington will help everyone to recycle more and send less waste to landfill.
Here’s how you can help:
1. Place both bins out on your usual garbage and recycling collection day, even if they’re empty.
2. Leave both bins out until 5 pm on your collection day.
3. Keep doing this each collection day until the bins have new red and yellow lids.
And don’t worry, your old bin lid will be given a new life by recycling it and the new lids are made with recycled plastic content.
Changing the garbage and recycling bin lids across Stonnington is a big job and will take several months to complete. We thank you for your patience and cooperation.
