The Pier Street feature site in Altona is now a more fun and interactive space after the unveiling of its new look for summer.
Works have been completed on the area between Blyth Street and Queen Street, making it a more appealing space for the community to gather.
The works include:
- an Instagram wall featuring a photo of the old Altona Pier by local photographer Russell Cassar
- lounges, tables and chairs
- games including hopscotch and noughts and crosses
- a painted road with toy cars
- toy boat and play kitchen
This revamp came after consultation in August about what the community wanted to see from the site in the future. That survey showed support for extending footpaths for outdoor dining and increasing the community space, so the barriers have been adjusted for this summer to reflect that.
Consultation and design work for long-term plans for the Pier Street feature site will begin in the new year.
