New Norfolk Rowing Club HQ opens on Esplanade

Mark Shelton,Minister for Local Government

The new home of the New Norfolk Rowing Club, the Derwent Valley Boat House, will provide a fantastic recreational and social gathering space for New Norfolk locals and the Derwent Valley community.

The new $2.3 million club and community facility was supported by $575,000 from the Tasmanian Government’s Community Infrastructure Fund, which aims to enhance the liveability and cohesion of communities around Tasmania.

The new location and brand new building marks a significant achievement in the almost 100-year-old club’s history and concludes many years of planning and hard work from club members and volunteers.

The new facility, located on the Esplanade straight across the Derwent River from the old rowing sheds, will help the club to grow membership and competitor numbers and stay strong for years to come. Importantly, this facility will offer a much needed and well equipped social hub for other community functions and events.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is proud to support grassroots and community clubs and organisations like this one through our grants program.

The brand new New Norfolk Rowing Club – Derwent Valley Boat House was officially opened by Her Excellency Professor the Honourable Kate Warner AC, Governor of Tasmania.
