New occupations added to ANZSCO: Australia

Updates to the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO) have been released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) today.

This release, the ANZSCO 2022, Australian update was limited to a targeted update of construction-related trades occupations, and selected emerging occupations.

Six new occupations have been added to ANZSCO, taking the total to 1,076 occupations.

Four new emerging occupations were added, including Data analyst, Data scientist, Supply chain analyst and Regulatory affairs manager.

Construction-related trades occupations were also added, including Fire protection plumber, and Furniture maker.

The updates are the result of two rounds of public consultation held this year to receive feedback on the proposed changes.

Chris Hinchcliffe, ABS Director of Statistical Infrastructure said, “A comprehensive review of ANZSCO has now commenced to identify where further changes to the classification may be required.

“Public consultation rounds will be held across 2023 and 2024 with each round targeting selected occupations grouped by focus area”.

The ANZSCO public consultation schedule provides indicative dates for when stakeholder feedback will be sought for each focus area.
