Skaters in Grantville and Corinella will soon have permanent Skate Parks, with construction now underway on new facilities.
The Parks are being built at the Grantville Recreation Reserve and at Harold Hughes Reserve in Corinella and are expected to be completed by the end of May.
Both of these Parks were recognised in Bass Coast Shire Council’s Skate Strategy 2018-2028 as key projects, to be built by 2020. The projects are fully funded by Council’s 2018/19 Capital Works program, further demonstrating Council’s commitment of recreational activities across Bass Coast.
Once built, these Parks will provide permanent facilities for the community and will eliminate the need for Council’s mobile ramp to service the towns.
Significant consultation was undertaken for both of these projects throughout the development of Council’s Skate Strategy. The final designs for both Corinella and Grantville have used the existing hardstand area within the Reserves, where the mobile skate ramp was located. The Skate Parks will provide a mix of transition and street style components to accommodate for skaters of all skill levels. Skate design specialists Playce assisted Council in developing the designs, which will complement both Reserves and provide a fun and challenging experience for all users.
At Grantville Recreation Reserve, the works will involve minor demolition works, construction of skating facilities, including a mini-ramp, manual pad and kink rail, construction of a pathway to connect existing facilities and landscaping.
At Harold Hughes Reserve, the works will involve minor demolition works and construction of a mini-ramp. Importantly, Council will continue to work with the Corinella community to investigate further equipment at the Reserve, to help increase participation in the future.
While the work is being carried out, temporary fencing and traffic/pedestrian measures will be in place. The works may present an inconvenience to users of the Reserves and Council’s contractor will make every effort to minimise any disruptions.
