On Friday 12 June, Georges River Council held the official opening for the new Peakhurst Park Community Centre. This community facility is an important milestone that reflects the innovation, collaboration and growing diversity of the Georges River area.
The Peakhurst Park Community Centre is a new multi-purpose space where community members can come together to learn, celebrate and connect. The community facility includes a community hall, kitchen, amenities and office spaces. The public will be able to hire these spaces for their events through Council’s Hire a Venue webpage.
The project was shaped by community input, including support from the Nepalese Australian Association (NAA). Through Council’s lease and licence process, the NAA will become the new tenant and has shared their vision for the centre as a vibrant cultural hub, offering programs that promote education, strengthen cultural identity and foster community connection.
Built using a smart modular construction method, the centre was manufactured off‑site in eight sections before being assembled at Peakhurst Park. This approach delivered a more efficient, sustainable and contemporary build.
The project was funded through a $1 million Federal Government grant secured by the NAA and $100,000 from the State Government. Council also contributed $1.3 million to support the centre’s development.
Georges River Council’s Mayor Elise Borg said, “This centre is a result of strong community advocacy and collaboration.”
“It reflects the diversity of our area and offers residents a warm place to connect, celebrate, and grow together.”
Zhi Soon MP, Member for Banks said, “I’m so pleased to see the Peakhurst Park Community Centre come into fruition.”
“It is a great example of Federal, State and Local Governments working alongside communities to deliver important local infrastructure.”
“While open to the whole community, I know the Nepalese Australian community has been working tirelessly to make the Community Centre a reality, creating a space where they can celebrate their culture and heritage with all, alongside providing important support to their community.”
The Peakhurst Park Community Centre forms part of Council’s broader vision for the Peakhurst Park precinct. Future improvements will deliver upgraded open spaces, better accessibility and additional parking.
The opening marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Peakhurst Park and the wider community.
