New pedestrian bridge for ‘The Rockies’

Strathbogie Shire Council Mayor Cr Chris Raeburn said The Rockies crossing was one of two creek crossings located on the Apex Walking Track in Euroa.

“Our Shire is known for its incredible walking tracks and the Apex Walking Track in Euroa is no exception,” Cr Raeburn said.

“We know our community has been calling for a new bridge at the Rockies for a long time, so we’re excited to see it happening.

“During our Share Strathbogie session at the Euroa Farmer’s Market we heard loud and clear to get on with the job, with the community giving the plans a huge thumbs up.

“The track is well utilised by our community and visitors, so this is a fantastic way to showcase our beautiful environment along the Seven Creeks while also ensuring pedestrian safety.”

The Independent Federal Member for Indi Helen Haines MP welcomed the investment in the popular tourist attraction.

“This project was top of the list of priority projects that myself and Strathbogie Shire Council presented to the Federal Treasurer Josh Frydenberg. Strathbogie’s tourist visitation is growing every month and this is another wonderful activity that can be enjoyed by all,” Dr Haines said.

The works will begin mid-2021 and are expected to be completed by the end of this year.

Council received a total of $1,234,110 funding from the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications, which will be allocated to the Rockies footbridge, road sealing around Kirwans Bridge and aquatic upgrades in the Shire.
