New president appointed to QIRC and Industrial Court of QLD

Industrial Relations Minister Grace Grace has today announced the appointment of a new President of the Industrial Court of Queensland (the Industrial Court) and the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission (the Commission).

Ms Grace said the Governor in Council had approved the appointment of Supreme Court Judge, the Honourable Peter Davis on 7 May.

Justice Davis will replace the Honourable Justice Glenn Martin AM, who has resigned as President effective 10 July.

Ms Grace thanked Justice Martin for his seven years of service to the Industrial Court and the Commission and commended Justice Davis on the new role.

“I’d like to congratulate Justice Davis on his appointment and wish Justice Martin all the best for the future,” Ms Grace said.

“The Court and Commission have a long and proud history in Queensland, with a reputation for independence, impartiality, and fair treatment.

“They play a major role in contributing to the economic and social well-being of Queenslanders and I look forward to Justice Davis continuing this tradition.”

Ms Grace said Justice Davis brings a wealth of experience to the role.

“Justice Davis was appointed as the judge of the Trial Division of the Supreme Court of Queensland in 2017,” she said.

“He was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland in 1984 and as a barrister of the Supreme Court of Queensland in 1990.

“His pre-judicial career included service as a Senior Counsel for the State of Queensland.”

Justice Davis’s new appointment will take effect from July 11.
