New primary school for students in Southern River

  • Southern Grove Primary School open for students from kindergarten to Year 6
  • $17.5 million state-of-the-art facilities
  • Students at Southern Grove Primary School have started the school year in brand new facilities following the completion of the second stage of works.

Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery today officially opened the $17.5 million facilities.

While early childhood facilities opened last year, the school in Southern River has this week welcomed about 270 students from kindergarten to Year 6.

Students will benefit from modern facilities including an inclusive education room, an art/craft room, a music classroom, a library and an administration block with an adjoining dental therapy centre.

The impressive new school – with architecturally designed nature playgrounds – will allow for specialist classes in music, physical education and Auslan as well as encourage play-based learning.

As noted by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:

“Students and families are already enjoying the modern facilities at the new Southern Grove Primary School.

“I am proud to officially open this fantastic school that will provide students with every opportunity to achieve.”

As noted by Southern River MLA Terry Healy:

“As a father and former teacher in the area, I know that families with young children in Southern River will be part of a school where children can start their primary education in a world-class learning environment.”
